The banquet dinner will be held in the famous “Chateau Carbonnieux”.
Founded in the 13th century by the Benedictine monks of the Abbaye Sainte-Croix of Bordeaux, Château CARBONNIEUX, in the heart of the terroir of Pessac-Léognan, is among the largest and oldest vineyards in the region.
Located near Léognan, 12 kilometers south of Bordeaux, on top of a beautiful hill, the castle dominates the top of its towers, 95 hectares of vines in one piece. Its imposing architecture of “Périgord style”, dating from the late Middle Age, hides amid its fortified walls a magnificent courtyard. Unique in Bordeaux, the vineyard has the special characteristic of being distributed half white vines, half red vines. It represents the largest area of white vines among the “crus classés”.
The reputation of Château CARBONNIEUX was built over centuries with the contribution of personalities like Thomas Jefferson, the Sultan of Constantinople, the monk Dom Galléas… This heritage, now under the responsibility of the third generation of the Perrin family, received the title of “grand cru Graves” in 1959 both for its red wines and white wines.
This property offers visitors an exceptional panorama, dominated by a medieval-looking castle.
The banquet starts at 7:30 pm after a visit of the Chateau.
Visit of the Chateau at 6:30 pm
Classic tour by appointment with a trained guide. Discovery of the highlights of the history of the property, presentation of the vineyard and its specific terroir, visit of the cellars (white and red), explanation about the picking, the winemaking and ageing of wines.
Throughout the visit discover a collection of old cars, coopers’tools, Toby jugs and the “memory” of the Chateau, a cellar where a century of vintages sleep. The tour ends with a tasting of Château CARBONNIEUX “Grand Cru Classés” (red and white). Access to the wine boutique at the end of the visit.
Important information: a bus will leave right after the end of technical session from the Enseirb-Matmeca conference building at 6:15 pm. All the attendees have to take this bus knowing the banquet dinner will be held at around 40 kilometers from the conference building.
